Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer at 375F / 190C for 3 minutes.
  • Combine all the ingredients with a spoon or hands so they are mixed together. Form into 3 large turkey patties or 4 smaller patties.
  • Spray the air basket with olive oil spray. Place the turkey burger patties in the basket with some space between them.
  • Air fry the turkey burgers for 10-15 minutes at 375C / 190C, using tongs to flip halfway through the cook time. Larger, thicker patties may need a few minutes. Check that the patties have an internal temperature of 165F at their deepest part with a meat thermometer. Air fry longer if required.
  • Serve the turkey burgers in either buns or lettuce wraps with salads of your choice.

Notes

*can be swapped for ½ teaspoon paprika. My low histamine readers will likely want to use sweet paprika.
  • Be sure to combine the ingredients so the egg, panko breadcrumbs and herbs are distributed evenly through the patties.
  • Don't overwork the turkey burger ingredients when forming patties as this can result in overly tough burgers.
  • Use tongs to (carefully!) flip the burgers - they will be very hot so don't use fingers!
  • Cook time will vary slightly depending upon the thickness of the turkey burger patties and the model of your air fryer. Be sure to check for an internal temperature of 165F.
  • Adjust the amount of herbs and spice to taste preference.
  • Use lettuce wraps rather than buns for a lower carb option.

All ingredients score 0 on the SIGHI list, with the exception of:
  • white onion scores 0, so you may wish to use this rather than regular brown onion.
  • garlic and panko (wheat), which score 1, with wheat having a ? as a liberator.
  • black pepper, which scores 2.
