💭 Why May You Like Frozen Cod Recipes?
While fresh fish from the deli counter is delicious, there are a few reasons why we may prefer not to use it.
Of course, the obvious issue is that we haven't been to the store but need to whip up a quick tasty dinner for all the family. I find that's when the freezer is definitely my friend!
It's also the case that fresh fish from the store that's been kept on ice for hours or days may not work for those with histamine intolerance or mast cell activation syndrome due to histamine formation. But if you're looking for low histamine recipes, then frozen fish (of some varieties) may be more suitable for some (see the SIGHI list and the page on histamine potential of foods for more information).
So let's share some tasty frozen cod recipes that make the most of your frozen fish and are so easy to cook up as a fun dinner!
🔪 Recipe Tips for Cooking Frozen Fish
These recipes all use frozen cod straight from the freezer - no thawing necessary! If you're making completely plain cod, then I suggest to drizzle with some olive oil first.
When baking frozen fish I suggest to cover it with aluminium foil for the first half of the cook time, then uncover so it doesn't dry out at the edges.
And of course, make sure you have safe cooking of fish by using a meat thermometer to ensure you have a reading of 145F at the deepest point of the fish (USDA). The fish should be white throughout and cooked so that it easily flakes with a fork.
🐟 Air Fryer Frozen Cod
Such a simple dinner idea, if I'm in a rush this air fryer frozen cod is my go-to. It's an easy recipe where we don't have to turn the oven on and instead air fry our cod fillet with some herbs. Pair with some veggies and potatoes for a hearty dinner!
🌿 Baked Cod with Pesto
Pesto is always an easy and very delicious way to flavor meats and fish, and this baked cod with pesto is no exception! We first bake the frozen fish a little, then make a simple pesto and spoon it on to give a 'crust' to the cod.
🍞 Baked Cod with Panko
Enjoy this baked cod with panko as a super simple weeknight dinner. We combine panko with garlic and herbs to make a delicious crust for your frozen fish - so easy!
🌰 Almond Crusted Cod
While many crusted fish recipes use panko or breadcrumbs, this almond crusted cod swaps them out for ground almonds, garlic and herbs. Just a grab a blender to make your almond crust!
🪴 Italian Herb Crusted Cod
If you're looking for a flavorful frozen cod recipe with lots of fragrant herbs, this Italian herb crusted cod is just the thing! Simply head to the freezer for your fish and pantry to make the crust!

🥭 Baked Cod with Mango Salsa

🍯 Honey Ginger Baked Cod
Enjoy this honey ginger baked cod as an easy weeknight dinner! We combine sweet honey, garlic and ginger to give your frozen cod so much flavor.
🥗 Side Dishes to Pair with Your Frozen Cod Dinner
To make these recipes for frozen cod fillets more hearty, we need some tasty sides for your lunch or dinner. Some ideas:
- Potato recipes are always popular with kids and adults alike, so perhaps my roasted potatoes and zucchini or my celeriac and sweet potato mash can tempt you!
- For something a little lighter on carbs, my mashed cauliflower with cream cheese feels quite indulgent, and check out my guide on how to cook frozen cauliflower rice for another freezer idea!
- Serve your frozen fish dinner on a bed of my fried cabbage without bacon for some extra veggies, or perhaps some cooked quinoa or rice.
- Pair with my air fryer root vegetables for a quick easy side dish!
