This iced rooibos latte is light, refreshing and has the delicious combination of fragrant tea and creamy plant milk. It's very easy to make as an iced caffeine free summer drink in less than 10 minutes!

iced rooibos tea latte in a glass next to bottles of milk and tea bags.

Much like my iced rooibos tea, this recipe makes the most of the slightly sweet, earthy and nutty flavor of rooibos. This iced tea latte combines the tea with plant milk of your choice for a more creamy taste and texture. It's so refreshing on a hot day!

Making this iced rooibos latte is something I've been doing often this summer as it's caffeine free and I can't drink regular black tea as it's higher histamine. It's also a nice alternative to iced coffee, as I know some of my low histamine readers have to avoid it.

You can find more drink ideas on my low histamine teas page for another time!

Ingredients

individually labelled rooibos tea bags, plant milk, maple syrup and hot water.

All the ingredients and their quantities are set out in the recipe card below.

Some notes on a few of them:

  • Rooibos tea - also known as red bush tea, I use tea bags rather than loose tea for this recipe. As the SIGHI list reminds us, do check the labels as different brands may add other ingredients and some may not be suitable for low histamine readers.
  • Plant milk - use the type that works best for you. Personally I use oat milk, but other types such as rice milk or a suitable nut milk may be better for you.
  • Maple syrup - just a touch for some sweetness.

How to Make an Iced Rooibos Latte

This is a really simple 'few ingredients' tea recipe, and all you need to make sure you have is a heat-safe mug or glass that can take boiling water.

All the recipe instructions are in the recipe card below, but these step by step photos should help guide you.

Step 3: Pour in the rooibos tea

Pour in the rooibos tea, give it a stir and enjoy your iced tea latte! (image 3).

Recipe Tips and Notes

  • Adjust quantities. If you like a stronger tea flavor, you can use another tea bag.
  • Make sure you steep the tea! To get a nice flavor, you need to steep in hot water for at least five minutes. I like to squeeze the bags against the side of the mug to really get the flavor out.
  • Add maple syrup to the hot tea. If you add the sweetener to colder liquids they won't dissolve as well.
  • Use plenty of ice. The tea is hot, so use enough ice cubes to get a cooling icy tea drink. I like to use big chunky ice cubes as they take a little longer to melt.

Ingredients

  • 2 rooibos tea bags
  • ½ cup plant milk of preference
  • ½ cup hot water
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • ice to preference

Instructions

  • Place two rooibos tea bags in a heat safe mug or glass. Pour on half a cup of boiling water, pour in the maple syrup and stir. Set aside so the tea steeps for 5-10 minutes. The longer you leave it, the stronger it will be. To make it even stronger, press the tea bags against the side of your mug with a spoon.
  • Add ice cubes to your serving glass, then pour on the milk of choice.
  • Remove the tea bags from your mug or glass. Pour the tea into the serving glass, and stir. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make sure to steep the tea for at least 5 minutes, to make sure you have lots of flavor.
  • Add the maple syrup to the hot water as it won't dissolve well in cold milk.
  • Use plenty of ice cubes as the tea is hot.
