This apple kale smoothie combines sweet fruit and leafy greens to make a refreshing drink in just a few minutes! Easy to make with affordable ingredients to enjoy as a quick snack or as a breakfast smoothie.

My personal favorite smoothies are those with a handful of easy to find ingredients, which is why apples are a go-to! This apple and kale smoothie without banana joins my other apple smoothie recipes, including my apple pear smoothie and apple ginger smoothie.
We combine tart green apples with leafy greens, and add in some frozen peaches (or mango) for some sweetness. There's a hint of 'green' kale but it's nicely balanced with the fruit.

🍏 Ingredients

All the ingredients and their quantities are set out in the recipe card below.
Some notes on a few of them:
- Apples - I like to use green Granny Smith apples for this recipe, both because of their tart taste and it gives us a vibrant green smoothie. Prefer more sweetness? Swap out for a red apple. No need to peel! We blend up with the skin on.
- Kale - I suggest to use curly kale, and remove the tough stems before blending it up.
- Frozen peaches - using some frozen fruit gives us a more creamy, thick smoothie. Frozen mango can also be used, or I often use a mixed bag of frozen peaches and nectarines.
📖 Swaps and Variations
Leave out the frozen peaches. On a recipe test I made this smoothie without the frozen fruit. It was good! Personally, I like the smoother thicker texture that adding the frozen peaches (or mango) gives us, but it's an option to leave out.
🥤 How to Make an Apple Kale Smoothie
It's so easy to make this apple smoothie with affordable ingredients, and all you need is a high-powered blender to turn them into a refreshing fruit smoothie!
All the instructions are in the recipe card below, but these step by step photos should help guide you.

Step 1: Add ingredients to blender
Add the de-cored diced apples, kale (tough stems removed), chia seeds, frozen peaches and plant milk to your blender cup (image 1).

Step 2: Blend!
Blend your apple smoothie so that it is thick, smooth and creamy. If you prefer a thinner consistency, simply add some more milk and blend again! (image 2). Add ice to preference.
💭 Recipe Tips and Notes
- Adjust the quantity of milk. Prefer a thicker smoothie? Use a little less milk. Love a thinner consistency? Pour in a little more!
- Use a high-powered blender. This will break up the frozen peaches and the kale as well.
- Pour the milk in first. You want to have the milk 'next to' the blades of the blender and then add the other ingredients, for ease of blending (depending on the type of blender you have).
📋 Frequently Asked Questions
Use a green apple, such as Granny Smith apples, for a more tart taste, or a red apple such as a Fuji apple or Honeycrisp for a sweeter flavor.
I use green curly kale, but baby kale or Lacinato kale can also be used to make smoothies.
Adding a tablespoon of hemp seeds would add a little protein!
