☕ Ingredients
All the ingredients and their quantities are set out in the recipe card below.
Some notes to help guide you:
- Pomegranate - we want to use fresh pomegranate seeds (also known as pomegranate arils) to make this fruit tea.
- Ginger - I definitely suggest to use fresh root ginger and not ground ginger!
- Honey - this is optional, but gives a little extra sweetness.
📖 Swaps and variations
Leave out the ginger. If you want a pure pomegranate tea, simply omit the ginger.
Adjust sweetness to taste. Add a little honey if you like a sweeter drink as pomegranate has a tart flavor.
🔪 Step by step instructions
Making this pomegranate tea recipe is very simply, has just a few ingredients and all simple recipe steps.
The full instructions are in the recipe card below, but these photos should help guide you.
STEP 1
Add the diced ginger to a pan and bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.
STEP 2
In a sieve placed over a jug (easier than a bowl), press down on the pomegranate seeds to release the juices. If your pomegranate seeds aren't very juicy whizz in a blender for a few seconds. Discard the seeds in the sieve.
STEP 3
Pour the ginger water through the sieve into the jug with the pomegranate juice. Then pour into your glasses.
💭 Recipe tips and notes
- Adjust the quantity of ginger to personal taste. Some like it very 'spicy' others just a gentle hum of heat.
- The honey is optional. Pomegranate already has a sweetness, but you can always add a touch of honey if you have a sweet tooth.
- For an even simpler recipe, you can add the pomegranate and ginger to a pot, bring to a boil then steep for 12-15 minutes. Strain into your glasses and you're done! I find this method has a less fruity taste, but is still delicious.
📋 Frequently asked questions
You can use a small spoon to remove the seeds from a pomegranate. Or alternatively hold a halved pomegranate cut side down in your hand, and bash it a little with a wooden spoon. The seeds will fall out of the fruit.
To make pomegranate ginger tea you'll need the ginger, but for pure pomegranate tea it can be left out of the recipe.
Pomegranate is a balance of sweet and tangy tart flavors. It can be used equally well in sweet desserts and drinks such as my pomegranate ginger mocktails and more savory salads such as my cucumber pomegranate salad.
