Basic ingredients. We use just a handful of ingredients and all are affordable items, and most pantry staples.
🌽 Ingredients
All the ingredients and their quantities are set out in the recipe card below.
Some notes on a few of them:
- Baby corn - make sure to choose fresh baby corn, and of course unbruised produce. You can find baby corn in stores such as Trader Joe's in the US, in most larger supermarkets in the UK or perhaps at a farmer's market. Baby corn is sometimes known as mini corn, young corn, baby sweetcorn or cornlettes.
- Olive oil - this both helps achieve some browning to the baby corn and make it crispy, as well as 'stick' the spices to them.
- Paprika - to add a little spice! I suggest my low histamine readers use sweet paprika, which scores 0 on the SIGHI list rather than regular hot paprika.
- Garlic powder - this is optional, but adds a nice hum of flavor.
📖 Swaps and variations
Swap the herbs and spice. Other herbs such as oregano, parsley or a mixed herb blend could be used. My low histamine herbs and spices post should be helpful to choose one to try!
🔪 Step by step instructions
Making these crispy air fryer baby corn is very simple, with just a few ingredients and all easy recipe steps.
The full instructions are set out in the recipe card below, but these photos should help guide you.
Step 1: Combine corn and seasonings
Add the baby corn to a bowl, drizzle in the olive oil and add the sweet paprika, dried thyme, garlic powder, salt and optional ground black pepper.
Step 2: Toss to combine
Use your hands to toss the baby corn through the oil, herbs and spice so they are evenly coated.
Step 3: Air fry the baby corn
After preheating the air fryer, add the baby corn to the basket in a single layer with a little space between them. Air fry at 390F / 200C for 12-15 minutes to the level of browning you enjoy. Shake the basket halfway through. Use tongs to remove the corn, as the basket will be hot!
💭 Recipe tips and notes
- Adjust the amount of herbs and spices to taste preference - add a dash more if you like!
- Prefer more browning and a crispy baby corn snack? Make sure to use enough oil and add a few more minutes of cook time for more browning.
- Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket. Make sure your mini corn have a little space between them for the air to circulate.
- For a quicker cook time, slice the baby corn in half, lengthways, and cook for 7-8 minutes.
📋 Frequently asked questions
Baby corn is a variety of corn that has been harvested early, before it reaches full-size. It is usually 2-3 inches in size, pale yellow in color and is edible (including the cob) raw or cooked. Baby corn is best know for being an addition to stir fry recipes and Asian dishes.
Cooked baby corn is slightly sweet, but very mild in taste. You can add herbs and spices for more flavor.
To make crispy baby corn in the air fryer that aren't soggy, make sure to add oil as it will help you get some browning. It's also best to have a little space between the corn to allow air to circulate between them.
You can easily halve the corn before air frying. Make sure to reduce the cook time as they won't need as long.
If using canned baby corn, make sure to drain well so they aren't too wet before you cook them.
