Cottage cheese is having quite a 'moment' as a high protein and very tasty cheese to use in so many ways. More typically used a savory ingredient, such as in my cottage cheese tzatziki and cottage cheese and dill dip, it's a creamy fresh cheese that's perfect for making appetizers and snacks.
But, similarly to my cottage cheese fruit smoothie, we can also make a delicious sweet cottage cheese with honey dip by combining it with a sweetener, spices and a little vanilla extract. All add sweetness to this light whipped cheese and it's perfect as a cottage cheese fruit dip served with fresh apple slices or berries.

⭐ Why this recipe is so good
Light and fresh. Just like my mascarpone dip, we make this yogurt free fruit dip with just a few ingredients. Then we (optionally) whip the cottage cheese to make it so light.
Versatile. As well as enjoying as a dip, we can use as a cottage cheese spread on toast or crackers as a breakfast or lunch idea.
Quick and easy. We use just a few pantry staples to jazz up the cheese, and it takes minutes to blend up your dip!
🍯 Ingredients
All the ingredients and their quantities are set out in the recipe card below.
- Cottage cheese - I suggest to choose a plain, unflavored cheese rather than one that already contains fruit, herbs or spices.
- Cinnamon and cardamom - these spices add a lot of flavor, and are typically pantry staples for many of us!
- Honey - I suggest to use runny honey rather than set honey.
📖 Swaps and variations
Leave out the cinnamon. If you're looking for low histamine diet recipes, you may like to use just cardamom. Cinnamon is debated in terms of histamine and seems quite individual in terms of being tolerated.
Swap honey for maple syrup. Both work well as a sweetener.
Add a drizzle of syrup. For a lovely fruity flavor, a little drizzle of my lychee syrup would be delicious!

💭 Recipe tips and notes
- Use a plain, unflavored cottage cheese that does not already have fruit, herbs or other ingredients added to it.
- Blending is optional - if you like a more chunky consistency then simply stir in the spices, honey and vanilla extract.
- If using a food processor to blend you may need to scrape the sides down with a spatula.

I’m confused by done of the ingredients in all of these recipes. My list of Do Not eat high histamine foods include cinnamon, blueberries and a few other ingredients you have in your recipes
Claire says
Hi Teresa, my recipes largely follow the SIGHI list for histamine which has blueberries and cinnamon (although that is highly debated, as I have noted in the recipe card of this post) as low histamine. I typically give the 'score' of ingredients from the SIGHI list at the bottom of each recipe. However, you should always follow the advice of your doctor or dietician as to the foods that are suitable for you and your health circumstances.
