Few ingredients. Simply head to the pantry to make the spiced glaze for these pears.
Vegan, refined sugar free and gluten free. We swap butter for coconut oil and use maple syrup in place of sugar to make these vegan air fryer pears.
🍐 Ingredients
All the ingredients and their quantities are set out in the recipe card below.
Some notes on a few of them:
- Pears - you want to use a sweet pear such as conference pears, Bosc pears or Bartlett pears. Make sure they are ripe for the best juicy flavor!
- Coconut oil - used in place of butter to make this recipe vegan. Make sure to melt it first!
- Maple syrup - used as a swap for white or brown sugar.
📖 Swaps and variations
Swap cardamom for cinnamon. If you prefer, you can use cinnamon if it works for you.
Adjust the cook time. Air fry time will vary slightly depending upon how 'gooey' you like your pears to be. I suggest starting at 10 minutes, then adding a few extra minutes to the texture you like.
🔪 Step by step instructions
Making these spiced pears in an air fryer is very simple, with just a few steps:
Step 1
Prepare the pears. While the air fryer is preheating, slice the pears lengthways and remove the core with a small spoon. Use a sharp knife to slice off the base of the pear (image 1).
Step 2
Make the spiced syrup. Combine the melted coconut oil, maple syrup and cardamom and stir well (image 2).
Step 3
Prepare the air fryer. Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper and place the halved pears cut-side up (image 3).
Step 4
Add the spiced syrup. Use a pastry brush to brush the pears with the spiced syrup. Drizzle a little extra in the centre where the core was removed for extra flavor! (image 4).
Air fry for 10-15 minutes at 375F / 190C, checking the texture after 10 minutes to see if you would like to continue to cook to preference.
Drizzle with a little extra maple syrup, dust with cardamom and then enjoy your warm spiced pears!
💭 Recipe tips and notes
- Pears can brown fairly quickly once cut, so have all your ingredients ready to use before you slice the pears.
- Slice the pears so both halves are roughly the same size. This will help them cook evenly.
- Swap cardamom for cinnamon if you prefer.
- Check the pears after 10 minutes to see how soft they are. Continue to air fry to the texture you prefer.
- Don't overcook the pears as they can become too soft and mushy.
- Be careful when removing the pears from the air fryer as the basket will be very hot.
