🌶 Ingredients
All the ingredients and their quantities are set out in the recipe card below.
Some notes on a few of them:
- Paprika - I suggest to use Hungarian sweet paprika for this recipe for its delicious fruity flavor.
- Cottage cheese - this thickens the dip and works as a swap for Greek yogurt that is often used to make dips. Choose a plain unflavored cheese.
- Bell peppers - I suggest to use red peppers for that delicious roasted sweetness as well as their pretty color!
📖 Swaps and variations
Swap sweet paprika for paprika or smoked paprika. If you are using regular hot paprika or smoked paprika, I suggest to use about ¼ teaspoon and have a taste test. Then add a little more to taste. My low histamine readers will likely to wish to stick with sweet paprika.
Leave out the cream cheese. I like the addition of the extra cheese flavor, but you can do all cottage cheese if you prefer.
Up the garlic! Love a really garlicky dip? Add another clove or two!
🔪 Step by step instructions
Making this paprika dip is very simple, with just a few steps. There's very little preparation and then we blend this yogurt free dip in just a minute or two!
The full instructions are in the recipe card below, but these photos should help guide you.
Step 1: Roast peppers and garlic
Dice a red bell pepper, drizzle with a little olive oil and roast for 15 minutes. Add two garlic cloves (skins on) to the baking tray, then roast for a further 15 minutes (image 1).
Set aside to cool, then remove the garlic from their skins.
Step 2: Blend the dip!
Add cottage cheese, cream cheese, roasted bell pepper, garlic cloves, paprika, salt and black pepper to a blender. Blend to a creamy paprika dip, adding more paprika to taste preference (image 2).
Serve with chips and crudites!
💭 Expert recipe tips and notes
- I suggest using a red bell pepper as they have more sweetness than green peppers when you roast them in the oven. Also gives a better color to the dip I think!
- Add the garlic into the oven once the peppers have already had 15 minutes of cook time. If you add them together, the garlic will overcook.
- Use plain unflavored cottage cheese and cream cheese.
- For extra flavor, you can always add more sweet paprika if you like!
- If you use hot or smoked paprika, then I suggest to reduce the quantity, blend the dip and have a taste test. Adjust to taste with more spice if you like.
📋 Frequently asked questions

You can use sweet paprika (as in this recipe) or regular hot or smoked paprika to make a paprika dip.
Red bell peppers are a good choice for dips as they have a lovely sweetness when roasted in the oven.
