Types of Salads without Tomatoes

Lots of traditional salads contain tomatoes, including:

  • Caprese salads
  • Tabbouleh
  • Salsa
  • Panzanella

But there are lots of ways to use food swaps to make similar salad recipes without tomatoes, using fresh veggies and herbs instead, as I talk about in my tomato substitutes post. No missing out here!

Why May you Like a No Tomato Salad?

We all like different foods, and perhaps tomatoes just aren't your thing. Tastes are so individual, after all.

Or perhaps you have an allergy to tomatoes or, like myself, have a condition such as mast cell activation syndrome and so eat low histamine recipes without them. Tomatoes are high in histamine (see the SIGHI list) and so may need to be avoided by someone with MCAS or conditions such as histamine intolerance or eczema.

Hi, I’m Claire. After a diagnosis of MCAS I began to follow a low histamine diet, which has helped me manage my symptoms. Here I hope to show that a restrictive diet can still be full of flavourful meals, and help you enjoy being creative in the kitchen.
