⭐ Why this recipe is so good
A non-bitter kale smoothie. We use juicy peaches and a little maple syrup to dampen down the slight bitterness that kale can have.
It's a vegan, gluten free and low histamine green smoothie. We use fresh ingredients that work for all these dietary requirements.
Quick and easy to make. It takes just a few minutes for this green kale peach smoothie to come together in your blender.
🍑 Ingredients
All the ingredients and their quantities are set out in the recipe card below.
Some notes on a few of them:
- Peaches - you use either regular peaches or donut peaches, just make sure they are perfectly ripe. I do suggest using frozen peach slices, and there is a quick guide to freezing below.
- Kale - I suggest using curly kale or lacinato kale.
- Hemp seeds - you want to use hulled hemp seeds (also known as shelled hemp seeds) for this smoothie.
📖 Swaps and variations
Swap peaches for nectarines. If you're out of peaches, nectarines are a great swap when they're in season.
Use the milk of your choice. I tend to use non-dairy milk such as oat milk or almond milk, but use the type that suits you best.
Add a little spice! For a kale ginger smoothie simply add a little fresh ginger root to your blender.
💭 How to freeze peach slices
To freeze your peach slices first pick a juicy ripe peach, then remove the stone, and use a sharp knife to slice. Add parchment paper or freezer-proof paper to a small baking tray or tupperware and lay the peach slices on it. Freeze overnight before you wish to make your peaches and greens smoothie!
You can also add a squeeze of lemon juice to the peach slices before freezing, but my low histamine readers may wish to skip this step.
🔪 Step by step instructions
Making this peach kale smoothie is so easy to do, with just a few steps:
Step 1
If you are freezing your own peach slices the night before (or earlier in the day), de-stone the peach, slice and lay in a lined tupperware container (image 1).
Step 2
Add the peaches, kale, non-dairy milk, hemp seeds and maple syrup to your blender cup (image 2).
Step 3
Blend to a thick green smoothie! Adjust with more peach slices or maple syrup for extra sweetness or more milk (or water) to thin, to preference (image 3).
💭 Recipe tips and notes
- I do suggest using frozen peach slices for this kale smoothie as they give it a much thicker and creamier taste and texture than using fresh ones.
- If using fresh peaches, make sure they are perfectly ripe and be sure to de-stone them before adding to the blender!
- You may wish to add a little ice if you are using fresh peaches.
- Adjust the amount of liquids, with your plant milk, to get the consistency you like best.
- To make the smoothie less 'green' in taste you can adjust the quantities and include more peach and a little less kale.
📋 Frequently asked questions
I do suggest using frozen peach slices as it gives a more creamy thick smoothie than using fresh peaches.
No! The peaches and maple syrup balance out the kale so there isn't a bitter taste at all. It's creamy with sweetness, and a hint of 'green' that's very tasty!
You can use other greens, but you would want to adjust the taste with a little more sweetener such as maple syrup or add more fruit depending upon the green used as some can be more bitter or pungent.
